A: We do and have adopted out of state.  We feel that to limit adoptions to a 50 miles radius greatly reduces the number of potential wonderful homes we could find for our birds.

A: No, one of the requirements of adoption is a personal meeting with us and the bird you are interested in.  We need to meet you face to face before we can agree to an adoption and you and the bird need to meet to see if you are compatible.

A: No.  First we feel it's too stressful for the bird and second you have to come to Dee's Haven to meet us and the bird you are interested in.

A: We do not "hold" birds or take payments on the adoption fees.  We have tried both and it was a nightmare.
A: We do not charge a fee to relinquish your bird.  We also do not charge an application fee.

A: Adopting a parrot is not like trying on a pair of shoes or a car.  It's a serious and life time commitment.  You should be aware of that before adopting.  To have a bird stay with you a month or so and decide "it's not right" for you isn't fair to the bird.  They begin to bond with you and then are given up yet again.  Any bird adopted from Dee's Haven MUST be returned to Dee's Haven if you can't keep it per the adoption contract.  Please note that adoption fees are not refundable.  Your adoption fee goes into Dee's Haven to help the next bird that comes in.  Adoption fees are spent for food, toys, vet care, cages, etc.  Most adoption fees are used as they come in.

A: We ask that you make an appointment to come and visit and that you come at that time.  If you are going to be more than 15 minutes late please call and let us know.  If you are more than 15 minutes late without calling you will need to reschedule your appointment.  We are busy taking care of the birds, cleaning cages, preparing food, etc. and cannot wait hours past your appointment time for you to come.

A: Everyone wants their birds to get along and be friends.  You are welcome to bring your bird to meet the bird you are interested in adopting. We do ask that you bring a current health certificate from your avian vet if you are bringing your bird with you.

A: We of course want your whole family to meet the bird you are interested in.  We do ask that if you bring your children you make sure they are respectful of our birds.  Please make sure your children do not stick fingers in cages, no running through the house and no yelling.  The birds are nervous with new people around and we don't want them upset by your visit.

A: If a bird comes into Dee's Haven with a cage they will be adopted out with their cage.  Otherwise, you will need to have an appropriate sized cage waiting at home for them.  We ask that you bring an appropriate sized carrier for the type of bird you want to adopt.  That means if you are interested in adopting a Macaw, you must bring a carrier that he/she will fit in comfortably.  Please do not bring a small carrier and think we can make the bird fit.  We do not have spare carriers to give out.
