Procedures for Adoption
1. You MUST fill our an adoption application and send it to us. The application is
in Word format so you can download it, fill it out, save and email it to us. We
need time to review and check references before you come to visit the parrot
you are interested in.
2. You MUST come and meet and interact with the parrot you are interested in.
All meetings are by appointment only.

Sherman is a beautiful little Sun Conure. He is 15 years old and was in one home for 12 of those years. He is fully feathered and flighted. He could use some work on his manners when being handled but with some TLC should be a great companion. You will need an appropriate sized cage for Sherman.
.
Meet Cisco, the Hahn's Macaw and Cuddles, the Blue Crown Conure. They live together and as you can see Cuddles likes Cisco bald. They are both very cute and love each other. They can both be handled away from the other one. They would need to be adopted together and will come with their cage and toys.
Sunny is a beautiful little Gold Capped Conure. As you can see he prefers no shirt or pants!! He started plucking about 4 years ago when his previous family acquired their second dog, a Golden Retriever. He is not overly loud and a cute little fellow. He saw a vet when he started plucking to rule out anything physical. He will take time to warm up to you but with proper love and attention should be a great little companion. Sunny comes with his cage and toys.
Jessie now!!
Jessie after his surgery
We helped in the rescue of a beautiful Sulfur Crested Cockatoo. He was living out in the wild for at least 3 weeks during the coldest part of the month so far. How he survived amazes me. A wonderful gentleman put food out for him twice a day the whole time he was in the wild.
At the request of the gentleman that saved his life, we have named him Jessie after his mother-in-law that passed away the day Jessie was caught. He is fully feathered and just a gorgeous bird.
Jessie Update
June 15, 2010
Jessie is doing just great. He's now sitting on special perches Jon made for him that are 2 and 3 inch flat perches, close to the bottom of the cage. Yesterday we moved the perches a bit higher up and Jessie climbed up to sit on them. He's just amazing. His recovery has been slow but progressing.
Just yesterday, when Jon was putting perches in, he forgot to close the door. Out came Jessie, slid down the cage legs and onto the floor. Jon said he walked around the room and then ran in the bathroom.
I'm constantly amazed at the resilience of these birds. They seem to be able to adapt to almost any situation.
It's now time to start working on handling Jessie. He's not to keen about it but who can blame him? We're the ones who wrapped him in towels, cleaned and bandaged his feet and gave him medicine. Needless to say, we probably aren't his favorite people. I think, with work, patience and love, that Jessie will make an incredible companion for someone. After all, he is a Cockatoo and who wants love and cuddling more than a Cockatoo?

Maxwell and Stinker are a bonded pair of Yellow Shoulder Macaws. They are very pretty and enjoy each others company. They will need some work to be handled but seem excited by attention. I believe in separate cages, but still beside each other, they may be easier to work with. They will say hello, good morning and come here. They are about 15 years old. They have to be adopted together. You will need a large cage for them and should have Macaw experience.

This is Zack. He is a wonderful little Senegal. He makes the cutest kissing sounds. I haven't heard him talk yet but maybe he can learn from you. Zack needs more work on being handled but loves having his head scratched and flying around the room. He loves sleeping in his little happy hut and isn't loud at all. Zack will come with his cage and toys, although he could certainly use a larger cage than the one he came in.
ADOPTION PENDING

Meet Charlie. He is a beautiful Eclectus. Charlie
is about 6-7 years old. He talks a little but mostly mumbles.
He needs work on being handled. He has a frozen left wing.
Apparently his wing was broken when he was 3-4 months old.
I'm not sure if it was just left to heal on it's own or what.
Charlie perches and gets around his cage well but is a bit
unbalanced on the floor when he first goes down there.
He will come with his cage and toys and perches.
Charlie needs a home with an experienced parrot person.

Here is Doodle or Doodle Bug. He is an adorable little Green Cheek Conure approximately 17 years old. He loves to hang out on your shoulder. He will come with his huge cage and toys. He is a fairly quiet little guy.

This is Angie Lo. She is a beautiful Moluccan Cockatoo. She is the sweetest girl and seems to like men and women equally. She loves being out of her cage and just hanging out. She says hello in the sweetest voice and loves being petted. Angie came from a not great environment and we are working on getting her clean and on a better diet. She is growing back some tail feathers and a few other feathers. She has been picking at her skin under one wing but we believe that's due to not having regular baths and her skin being so dry. We are introducing her to showers by means of a mister as she's not too fond of water. She tolerates the misting well though and we soak her.
She will lay her head over for you to pet her. She will need a large cage since she came in without one. You will need to have Cockatoo experience to adopt Angie Lo.
Our adoptable birds are not free birds. They do have an adoption fee.
Our adoptable birds do not come with cages unless their cage is brought with them. Dee's Haven does have cages that we house our rescues in until homes are found. You will need to show you have an adequate sized cage for the species you will be adopting.
We do not sell our birds but must require an adoption fee to keep going and help other birds in need. Our main objective is to find our birds loving and suitable homes.
While we do not specifically require you to have bird experience, we do ask that you have done research on the type of bird you would like to adopt. You will need to show that you know about the care and handling of the bird before we can allow you to adopt.
We reserve the right to refuse adoption to anyone that we don't find suitable for a particular bird. Don't take it personally. We always try to let our birds pick their people instead of the other way around. Our MAIN concern is our birds health, welfare and happiness. If the bird you want to adopt doesn't seem to connect with you, we won't adopt him/her to you.
Dee's Haven will NEVER knowingly adopt to a breeder.
There are far too many parrots in need of homes now.
