Dee's Haven
Parrot Rescue/Sanctuary

Dee's Haven is 100% volunteer based and is non-profit

We are a small scale bird rescue/sanctuary located in Lexington, Georgia.

Our main purpose is to find great homes for parrots that need them, to work to rehabilitate parrots that have problems, to help educate the public about the care of parrots and the overwhelming number that are re-homed every day.

We also will be happy to work with you to keep your parrot in your home if there is a way.  The best situation for any bird is to be with his family.

We can also board your parrots for vacation, if you're moving or having any type of problems where you need short term or long term boarding.

At Dee's Haven, a parrots health, well being and happiness is our first concern.  We are selective about our adoptions and will never knowingly place a bird into a breeding situation.

If you want to adopt, you don't necessarily have to have experience with birds, but you DO have to do your homework--research, know what is involved, and know what you are getting into.  Please, make sure you are willing and able to provide a loving and permanent home before you adopt a parrot.  Be certain you can live with the noise and the mess and possible destruction of your home.  Be sure you are willing to make the commitment to having a parrot in your home and as part of your family.  You will truly never find a better companion.

Parrot Property Laws

1.     If I like it, it's mine.

2.     If it's in my mouth, it's mine.

3.     If I can take it from you, it's mine.

4.     If I had it a little while ago, it's mine.

5.     If it's mine, it must never appear to be yours in anyway.

6.     If I'm chewing something up, all the pieces are mine.

7.     If it just looks like mine, it's mine.

8.     If I saw it first, it's mine.

9.     If you are playing with something and you put it down, it

        automatically becomes mine.

10.   If it's broken, it's yours.

Right now we are trying to raise funds for Jeebie and Harley's continued medical treatment.

Jeebie had to have 2 toes amputated on April 2.  There was no alternative due to severe infection and nerve damage.  We are hoping he doesn't have to have his leg amputated, but time will tell. Jeebie bit a toe off and continued to try to bite his foot.  We will work to teach Jeebie to handle life with a physical challenge leg and hope for the best possible outcome.

Harley is a mutilator and is on 2 different medications as well as antibiotics and pain medication and will be in a special collar and will require continued vet care as well until we can figure out the cause of his mutilating.

You can read about them on our resident birds page.

If you would like to make a donation to help with Jeebie and Harley's care, just click donate below or you can contact us for the vet information if you would like to donate directly to the vet for Jeebie and Harley.

NATIVE AMERICAN POEM

I give you this one thought to keep
I am with you still - I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sunshine on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not think of me as gone-
I am with you still - in each new dawn.

RIP by darling little Casey.
I know you are flying over that rainbow bridge
but you are missed beyond words.
